Fashion Made To Fit Women

I am about to drop a major rant...

I am seriously tired of the "ideal body" I see everywhere in fashion magazines and now 24/7 on Instagram, yay!

WTF!?! "THE PERFECT BODY" in this picture is a very small percentage of what the real size in America is today. This is what pops up in google when I search for "ideal body women".

You know why? Because it's not catering to every woman! Also, it's damaging to young women to compare themselves to this now on a every day scale thanks to social media. No wonder why more of us are suffering from anxiety and depression. We grow through life hating ourselves if we don't look like these ladies on fashion magazines. Well, those celebrities/models don't even look like that in real life. The average size in America is 16-18. Most fashion houses only do size runs 0-12, which is not realistic because the size 12 is really like a size 6. The reason I know this is from personal experience. I use to sell designer clothing in some boujee boutiques in Palo Alto and we would get to try the clothes on. Being a size 6, I felt overweight for these clothes. Yah I know! Ridiculous you're probably thinking I am for even thinking that, but that's what these fashion brands and stores want you to feel like. Even my bosses at these boutiques looked like three steps away from passing out. Sorry, but freakin' eat food ladies!

My solution: how about making a line to fit women? Not the other way around where we kill ourselves in the gym to fit in those designer dresses. Take me for instance, I have worked out for 16 straight weeks now and getting mad at myself if I want to eat a freakin' delicious cupcake is not my idea of enjoying life. I should be proud of myself for kicking butt in the gym!

As a tailor, I see it with all women and even men. We all have a hard time looking at ourselves in the mirror and being like, "hey pretty lady" or "hey handsome". We always find something to pick at, instead of loving our unique selves. That is why I decided to change my sizing with my collections. After watching the movie "Embrace" on my netflix binge, I really felt like an A-HOLE. I was part of the problem too as a business owner. That's why I am happy to offer sizes 0-24 in my womenswear collections. The best thing about it too is that it's bespoke, so I get a chance to connect with you as the consumer and create a great garment. It's a small change, but I am happy to follow other designers in seeing the realistic picture. Fashion made to fit women.
